This group meets on the second Monday of each month to discuss a specific mystery, horror, or
intrigue novel. This month's selection is Odd Thomas by Dean R. Koontz. Once in a very great
while, an author does everything right-as Koontz has in this marvelous novel. Odd Thomas, who
narrates, is odd indeed: only 20, he works contentedly as a fry cook in a small fictional California
town, despite a talent for writing. The reason for his lack of ambition? A much rarer talent: Odd
sees and converses with ghosts, the lingering dead who have yet to pass on, a secret he has
kept from nearly everyone. Odd also has the ability to see bodachs, malevolent spirits that feast
on pain and whose presence signifies a likelihood of imminent violence. For additional

This group meets on the third Tuesday of each month to discuss the major works of the greatest
authors of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, and related genres. This month we will be discussing
the works of Robert Louis Stevenson with the featured selection being The Strange Case of Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The nightmare-inspired “bogey tale.” Robert Louis Stevenson's
supernatural story The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (most commonly known by the
shortened title Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) became an immediate best-seller in Great Britain and
America when it was published in 1886. The novel has also earned accolades from the academic
community for its artistic style and penetrating psychological themes. The Strange Case of Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is based on the story of Edinburgh's infamous Deacon Brodie, who was
discovered to have been living a double life, coupled with a dream Stevenson had one night, what
he called "a fine bogey tale," about a man who drinks a potion made from a white powder and
subsequently transforms into a devilish creature. For additional information click www.
