This group meets on the first Tuesday of each month to view SF and other genre related films.
This month we view Howl's Moving Castle - is an Academy Award-nominated Japanese
animated fantasy film, based on Diana Wynne Jones' novel of the same name, and directed by
Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli. Young Sophie Hatter is cursed by the Witch of the Waste, and
turns into an old hag. Ashamed of how she looks, she flees into the hills where a moving castle
roams the hills. It is said to belong to the young and handsome wizard Howl, who has a bad
reputation. Seville Diner follows the movie - 289 Broadway, Westwood,NJ. (approx. 9:15 to 10:30,
sometimes later).

This group meets on the second Wednesday of each month to discuss all things related to comic
books, anime, and manga. Whether its Golden Age, Silver Age, Manga, or anime, this group
tackles the ins and outs of art, story, and the graphic media. This month: Akira. Recommended
reading/viewing: Akira (anime or manga). Akira is a cyberpunk serial manga by Katsuhiro
Otomo. An identically titled anime film adaptation was released in 1988. The manga originally
began publication in 1982 in Japan's Young Magazine and finally concluded in July 1990. The
collected manga totaled over 2000 pages and was released in 6 volumes by Kodansha. In 1988,
it was published for the first time in the U.S. by Epic Comics, a division of Marvel Comics. This
colorized version ended its 38-issue run in 1995. An English version of the 6 volume collection
was released in the USA in 2000 by Dark Horse Comics. Please note: this group also meets for

Beyond will be our Face the Fiction segment.This month's guest speaker will be international #1
