Post Meeting Write-up
Face the Fiction met last night and was an overwhelming success. It was agreed that we couldn't
have asked for a more beautiful location. The decor was vibrant, festive and comfortable..almost
too comfortable - I think it was about 1:00am when we all finally (very begrudingly) said goonight!
The evening began with Todd showing his coveted boxed-set of BSG to a full-house.
Conversation and snacking continued until Todd & I went to go pick up dinner around 5:15 or so.
When we returned, several others had arrived and we all sat down for pizza. Todd spoiled us with
several different choices and we chose them all!! We cleaned up and prepared for our
guest-of-honor, S.E. Schlosser around 6:30. Ms. Schlosser was punctual and arrived shortly after
(@6:35).
Special guest speaker, S.E. Schlosser, who was very nicely introduced by thank you -- Steve
Spinosa, folklorist & fantastic storyteller, provided us with a special treat. Schlosser is a natural
born storyteller and regaled us with several stories, ranging from a prankster ghost to a dancing
mortar bowl and a brush with evil. Her presentation was lively, interesting and was flooded with
questions. Some offered up their personal experiences (Remy & Barry), some asked how Ms.
Schlosser goes about researching an area for her books (Craig, Todd, Joe H), others were
interested in how skeptics were dealt with (Steve H). The questions kept coming, but we finally
stopped being greedy and let her end her presentation - we didn't let her leave though!! Ms.
Schlosser was having such fun with the group, that she stayed and talked, had coffee and dessert
with us until 11/11:30 pm!! She left with our calendar in hand (she must be fearless) and plans to
attend future meetings!!
Following the presentation, we asked our moderators to step up to the front of the room so we
could show them our appreciation (I'm sure they felt like victims in front of a firing-squad). We let
each of them know they had our thanks & heartfelt gratitude. We have wonderful moderators that
make our work easier and they should be given proper due. Barry & Chris H even gave us a
rockettes-like dance of thanks!
We continued the night with coffee (Joe Havasy & I averted disaster with a leaky coffeepot), more
food (Bill is quite the microwave chef), much conversation and a lot of fun. We were lucky to have
Nancy Denker stop in for a visit before she moves out of the area to Philly. She asked to kept in
the loop and plans on visiting when possible. Paul D generously took pictures (we will post them
as soon as I receive them) and also brought Kate!! Thank you Paul for the pictures and Kate.
Thanks to Kate for the cool Wendigo story! Thanks to everyone who brought food Joe H, Liz B,
Craig, Brian & Ana, Steve & Jim, Bill, Gene (if I forgot to mention you, smack Chris in the
head..lol...). Thanks to everyone who made the night such fun.
