Pangs: Thanksgiving episode from Buffy the Vampire Slayer the Series. Great character-driven
episode. From Anya ogling Xander's buff shovel-wielding bod as the show opens, to Spike's
impish facial expression in the very last shot, this one's a great examble of BTVS at it's funniest.
Buffy castigates Giles for not having a ricer, then admits that she doesn't know what a ricer is.
Buffy gripes at Willow for buying frozen, rather than fresh, peas, bemoaning the fact that the peas'll
be mushy, then Giles, the archetypal Brit, remarks that he likes mushy peas. Willow channels her
santimoniously p.c. mother by dutifully expressing solidarity with the poor oppressed
Native-American who's trying to kill them all at "Fort Giles". Spike gets bound to a chair, pierced by
multiple arrows, then freaks hilariously when Buffy inadvertently transforms an attacking
"indigeous person" into a huge bear. If you love the characters (which you surely would if you'd
watched the series so far) it's hard to imagine your not getting a giggle from Pangs. Another
episode, Amends, follows. In this episode, Angel fights demons from his past that haunt him for
his misdeeds as Angelus. Seville Diner follows the movie - 289 Broadway, Westwood, NJ.
(approx. 9:15 to 10:30, sometimes later).

This group meets on the second Monday of each month to discuss a specific mystery, horror, or
intrigue novel. This month's selection is
Unshapely Things by Mark Del Franco. In the alleys of the
decrepit Boston neighborhood known as the Weird, fairy prostitutes are turning up dead. The
crime scenes show signs of residual magic, but the Guild, which polices the fey, has more
"important" crimes to investigate and dumps the case on human law enforcement.
Boston police call in Connor Grey, a druid and former hotshot Guild investigator-whose magical
abilities were crippled after a run-in with a radical environmentalist elf. As Connor battles red tape
and his own shortcomings, he realizes that the murders are not random, but part of an ancient
magical ritual. And if Connor can't figure out the killer's M.O., the culmination of the spell might just
bring about a worldwide cataclysm. For additional information click

of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, and related genres. We will be discussing the works of Susan
Cooper with the featured selection being
The Dark is Rising. On Midwinter's Eve, the night before
his eleventh birthday, Will Stanton, seventh son of a seventh son, finds his world suddenly
    become ominous: Animals are afraid of him; the radio gives out raucous shrieks in his presence;
and the weather turns unnaturally cold and wild. Even a neighbour's birthday gift - a flat iron circle
quartered by a cross - seems somewhat enigmatic. Early on his birthday morning, Will awakes to
find himself centuries back in time and discovers that he is actually the last of the 'Old Ones', a
mystical company whose mission has always been to keep the forces of the Dark at bay. For

  • Modern Masters
    Friday November 30, 2007
    8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Borders @ Ramsey Interstate Shopping Plaza
    235 Interstate Shopping Center
    Ramsey, NJ 07446
    201.760.1967

Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, Modern Masters temporarily moves
back one week to the 30th,
    just for November
.  This month's Modern Masters highlight's new author Rebecca Stott and her
    critically acclaimed novel
    Ghostwalk.

British historian Stott makes a stunning debut with this hypnotic and intelligent thriller, the first
fiction release of a new Random House imprint. The mysterious drowning death of Elizabeth
Vogelsang, a Cambridge University scholar who was almost finished writing a controversial
biography of Isaac Newton, leads her son, Cameron Brown, to recruit Lydia Brooke, his former
lover, to complete the book. That request plunges Brooke into probing two ostensibly separate
series of murders: one in the 17th century claimed the lives of several who stood between Newton
and the fellowship he needed to continue his studies at Cambridge; the other in the present day
appears to target those who have offended a radical animal rights group. Brooke's work may be
haunted by a ghost from Newton's time who guides her to a radical reinterpretation of the role of
alchemy and the supernatural in Newton's life. Much more than a clever whodunit, this taut,
atmospheric novel with its twisty interconnections between past and present will leave readers
hoping Stott has many more stories in her future.
